As the temperature drops and the days get shorter, we can feel the holidays are quickly approaching. Although 2020 has brought some spooky holiday threats of its own, it does not mean we need to cancel the upcoming holidays. Halloween is right around the corner and there are many creative ways to keep yourself and your family safe during the ongoing pandemic. Carving or decorating pumpkins. Decorating or carving pumpkins is a classic Halloween traditions! This is a good activity to do outside, at a safe distance, with neighbors or friends. Make it fun! Create a virtual contest with friends and family using zoom or any other video chat application. Virtual “mask” erade contest. Halloween allows everyone to be as creative as they can be by dressing up or creating their costumes. Play around with words, and call your party a “mask”erade, where everyone wears their favorite face coverings as part of the costume. Invite your friends and family to a virtual costume contest to show off each other's costume ideas while staying safe at home. Engage everyone with a chair dance party, karaoke, or a parade around the living room. Healthy Halloween treats. Make tasty Halloween-themed treats that include fruits, nuts and veggies. Autumn is the season for delicious fall produce, like apples and pears, but you can also use dried fruits and cranberries or cherries. Be as creative as possible by adding some spookily healthy tasty toppings to your baked goods. Halloween scavenger hunt. Have a trick-or-treat scavenger hunt with family and friends around the house or yard with Halloween-themed things to look for. This is a good alternative over going from house to house. Tip: If your family does decide to give out treats, it is recommended to prepare goodie bags for a quick grab and go. Creative Halloween decorations. Take some time to put up decorations around the house, apartment, or living space with your family or housemates. There are many simple and fun, DIY ideas online for Halloween decorations for those that like to get creative. Remember to always disinfect all your materials with an antibacterial cloth or wash it with soap and water before using it. Drive-thru events. Organize or go to events that allow you to stay in your vehicle within your bubble. There are many events at the moment that allow you to drive through an area with Halloween displays or drive-in events where individuals receive a treat bag. There are also drive-thru haunted houses for those that enjoy the thrill of a haunted house. Avoid crowded events. When you are planning your events, make sure to avoid crowded activities that do not allow you to maintain a distance of 6 feet apart. Avoid events such as indoor haunted houses, tractor rides, traveling to fall festivals that are not in your community, costume parties held indoors, and traditional trick-or-treating where children go from door to door. Avoiding crowding events will help prevent the spread of the virus. Remember that there are many alternatives to continue the old traditions and ideas to create new traditions.
